Guest Designer Interview - Merve Aruta Adesign talent from Istanbul

Our Designer Interview today is with the talented Merve Aruta. Based in Istanbul her work is highly detailed, and suitable for both Fashion or Home Decor. Featuring intricate floral details and plant forms. Her sense of colour is exquisite.

Why did you choose to be an Artist/Designer?

When I was young, my best friend’s mother was a painter.  By watching her work and playing with her sketches, I found my passion for colors and art. The experience made me want to explore my artistic side. I took formal digital art and oil painting classes and eventually majored in fashion design and textiles in college. The satisfaction and happiness I received from every one of my creations made me want to spend the rest of my life as an artist. In time, my passion for nature started to show itself in my work. Today, I am very thankful to be able to unite my photography, oil painting, illustration, fashion and textile experience into the pattern designs I enjoy so much.

Who is your favourite  creative and why?

It is impossible to pick only one or two individuals who influence me the most. Art is so multi-faceted, and I am inspired by creatives across the entire spectrum of creative forms. However, if I have to name someone who influenced my work with pattern design, I would say Maria Van Oosterwijck and Henri Fantin-Latour would be the first names that inspired me.

Sum up your style in 10 words

Both abstract and concrete nature and floral patterns,

How could the print/design industry best support new designers

In my experience, expositions are the most effective way for designers to show their work. Sections created for new and upcoming designers give undiscovered artists a platform to show their work to the market.

Where do you see yourself professionally in ten years?

For me, the future holds so much potential. In ten years, I would like to be designing for lead firms in the textile market while increasing the reach of my online work. I also hope my path in design and my work can inspire new artists to find their own way.
